A good tour to Cajas Park from Cuenca
Wilson was a great guide on this walking tour. He knew all about plants and led us at a good pace on this high altitude walk.

    A place to remember
An amazing place to visit, everything around it is so unique and enjoyable, Wilson made sure we felt welcomed and even though it was a bit cloudy it still gave us a chance to catch some breathtaking views. I definitely recommend to take this tour when around Cuenca. You can't miss it. Do wear warm clothes as it can get pretty cold, specially if it rains.

    Great experience
The tour was just great. Our guide Andres was very nice and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the park's vegetation. The places we visited were truly stunning. Lunch was vegetarian-friendly and local. We highly recommend this tour when in Cuenca.

The perfect trip exploring Ecuador and the Galapagos!
My husband and I booked a 14 day trip to Ecuador through Expediciones Apullacta. We arrive in Guayaquil where we were picked up by our tour guide Sebastian and driven to Cuenca. Along the way we stopped at a small cocoa plantation where we were given a tour and had a fabulous lunch. Over the next 3 days we toured Cuenca and visited Ingapira, Gualaceo, Chordeleg and Cajas National Park all with the same tour guide/driver. We had an amazing time in Cuenca. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to be with. He picked us up every morning at our hotel and brought us back at the end of the day. While in Cuenca we stayed at the Hotel Victoria. We highly recommend this hotel. It is a beautiful hotel in a great location (old town) with a great staff. From Cuenca we flew to Quito where we spent the next 4 days. While in Quito we toured the city as well as the Middle of the World, Otavalo, Cotacachi, Peguche, and Mindo. Our guide while in Quito was Christian, he too was very knowledgeable and a great tour guide. From Quito we went on a 5 night 6 day cruise of the Galapagos islands on the Alya Yacht. This was an experience of a life time. Everything about our time in the Galapagos was perfect. We returned to Quito for 1 day before our flight home. Christian was there to pick us up at the airport. He took on the Teleferico for an aerial view of Quito. We had lunch at Pim's at the base of the Virgen de El Panecillo statute overlooking Quito. It was the perfect ending to a magical trip. Expediciones Apullacta made all the hotel reservations and flight reservations within Ecuador and our Galapagos cruise reservations for us. The tour guides in both cities were exceptional. I highly recommend Expediciones Apullacta for your trip to Ecuador!

    International Air Tickets
I would highly recommend Sofia of Expediciones Apullacta for the international air ticket arrangements she made for me this past week! Sofia was thorough, patient, and always gave me the best options before proceeding. She speaks and writes Spanish and English fluently. One of my trips was to Europe with several stops and the other to South Korea and Japan. Although I met her at her office initially, we were able to work remotely as well. She sent a secure link for payment, and it worked smoothly. Sofia saved me a lot of time and effort, and for her professionalism and care, I would use this organization again in a Cuenca second! Many thanks, Sofia and Expediciones Apullacta!

Hike magnificent Cajas National Park with Apullacta
Our tour with Apullacta to Cajas National Park was great from beginning to end. We booked a full day (8:30 to 4) and the ticket purchase ($50 US) was fast and efficient. The office dministrator explained the day's schedule and advised us how to prepare. We left with a voucher on paper providing details of park regulations and confirming pick up time. Sofia followed up a few days later and on the trip day itself to alert us of very slight differences in timing. Very impressive! Our naturalist guide, Wilson, was expert at identifying park flora and fauna and shared so many interesting details about medicinal uses of the plants and about the biodiversity of the park itself. Many of the plants are tiny and would be impossible to spot without an experienced guide. The day was cold and rainy and he rallied our group with his enthusiasm and playfulness. This park is awe-inspiring and magnificent. One of the truly memorable experiences of my life. Take the opportunity to see it with the capable guidance of Apullacta. The outing includes a yummy lunch of trout at a restaurant in the park. Bring your warmest clothes, raingear, water and a snack. Apullacta is at Gran Colombia 11-02 y General Torres, Cuenca.

We really enjoyed our day trip to the Incan ruins. The staff were helpful in getting it set up, the guide was great, and the price a good value. It was helpful they all spoke english. We will book day trips through them again.

A perfect day at Cajas NP
Our hike in Cajas was awesome. Our first hike was around the Llaviucu laguna to warm up a bit. A car brought us to Tres Cruzes a fabulous viewpoint (4200m and continental divide). There we started our tour to several beautiful lagunas, polylepis forests and experienced a breathtaking nature and brids. Our guide, Alejandro is brilliant. As a former park ranger, he is very knowledgeable about the park, the animals, the plants, the history, the trails, etc. He loves the park and that's what makes him so great. Once you have acclimatized to the altitude a bit and ready for a 4 hour hike, we can only recommend this trail (4 & 7). Ask for Alejandro!

Trip of a Lifetime in the Galapagos
Our Galapagos Island tour was fabulous! We travel quite a bit independently but this time we were out of depth so we wanted experts on the Galapagos to guide us. Expediciones Apullacta, based in Cuenca, Ecuador, fit the bill remarkably They are a travel agency that understands and can work with English speakers as well as Spanish speakers which is very important in South America. We live in the US but we had no difficulty working with EA to plan an exciting and fascinating trip. Everything was well executed: the airline, the hotel (Highly recommend Hotel Ikala) the tours, (You must see the blue footed boobies and tortoises!) the guides, the food, (try the scorpion fish at La Mer) the hospitality. It would have been nice to be there for at least 4 nights/five days (which EA recommended) but we did a 3 night/4 day tour because of time constraints. We enjoyed our land based hotel and the ability to walk around at night very much. You will feel very safe in Santa Cruz. It's not as rustic as I thought but still very unique (there are the requisite t-shirt shops though) but it's charming and colorful and full of nice people. Go there!

    Great day at the Cajas
Our tour agent provided us with a list of what we should bring on our day trip. Our guide and driver picked us up at the hotel on time. Moises was very knowledgeable about the flowers and plant life. We even saw a flock of toucans! We had a great trout dinner and everyone enjoyed the day. Our group included English, Ecuadorean and the USA !

    Cajas & Ingapirca
We did two excursions, one to Cajas National Park and the other one to ingapirca. Both were good, we had a really nice guide - Milton who knew a lot and explained everything very well. In cajas he also adjusted the trekking to our wishes and always made sure that we were fine with the altitude etc.

Great travel experience in Ingapirca and Cuenca Walking Tour with APULLACTA EXPEDITIONS
Wonderful experience with Juan. The best tour guide who was par of our Cuenca adventure. We had great time with him in Ingapirca and also a charming walking tour through the city of Cuenca. What I liked the most is how organized is this company. They work very hard to arrange the trip in advance, and also following our experience after it ended. Very recommended tours to discover Cuenca!

    REDISCOVERING CUENCA AND BEYOND
In addition to enjoying the natural and unusual beauty of the National Park we had a very knowledgeable, professional and friendly guide - Sebastian. As I mentioned briefly to Sandy, visiting Dos Chorreras , I do not think the property is suitable for our clients' profile. Entering the lodge lobby, one gets the feeling that we are in Disneyworld and not in Cuenca. Additional compared the quality of food and service we experienced in the Hosteria Ingapirca it was far superior than the lunch service and food quality at Chorreras.

My husband and I hired Expediciones Apullacta for 3 day Inca Trail trek. It was an amazing experience. Our guide Juan was beyond experienced and knowledgeable and it showed that he loved the area. The trek is not necessarily easy but well worth the long walking and sleeping in a tent.

Sandy, the office personnel that set up the trip was attentive to detail and flexible when we had changes to our itinerary. I highly recommend this company!

My 3 friends and I (4 women) hiked through the Inca trail in July 2016. We arranged the trip through Happy Gringo, and my communications with Marcelo at Happy Gringo was very good. He was always very quick to respond and answer questions. When we arrived for the trip, we learned that it had been outsourced to another company Expediciones Apullacta. There seemed to be a little bit of miscommunications between our rep at Happy Gringo and the tour guide at Apullacta. Luis, our tour guide with Apullacta, was able to work with us to get things figured out, so it was not a problem.

The hike was amazing, with incredible scenery. It was moderate in difficulty, with some uphill trekking, but mostly pretty level. There were horses and donkeys to carry our large packs, but we carried day packs with our own water, lunch and necessary daily supplies. They provided all meals (eggs for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and pasta for supper) but we had to provide any snacks that we wanted. Luis was a terrific guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the history and culture.

We used Apullacta for three day-trips. We had the same excellent guide/driver for all three. On the first day, he took us to El Cajas national park. We walked around the Laguna Llaviucu, and were treated to an excellent explanation of the site, the countryside, the flora and the fauna. We were then taken to Las Tres Cruces on the Atlantic/Pacific watershed, where again we were fully informed about everything we wanted to know. Lunch was provided at Estancia San Juan - so good that I have put a separate review. The second day we were taken to Ingapirca (the main Inca ruins in Ecuador). Again, an erudite explanation of everything. The third day we were driven from Cuenca to Guayaquil, which neatly solved our transfer problem. We could not have hoped for a guide that drove more carefully, explaioned everything excellently and made us feel that we were getting to understand the couingtry and the countryside.

Expediciones Apullacta has organized our whole trip to Ecuador (2 weeks). On the main land we have visited Quito, Mindo, Quilotoa lagoon, Cotopaxi volcano, Banos, Chimborazo volcano, Ingapirca ruins, Cuenca, Cajas national park. Then we had our flight from Guayaquil to Galapagos, where we spent 5 beautiful days. We stayed at Santa Cruz island, spent 2 days on Isabela Island, visited Seymour, lots of places where we could observe animals, wild life, do snorkel etc.

The level of services, organizarion, guides, program, hotels provided by Expediciones Apullacta were very high!! We are experienced travellers and are truly happy we have engaged this tour agency to make our trip happen!! We were choosing among various agencies and their itineraries and as a result we are filly convinced Apullacta is a perfect value for money!!

The agency has from the start suggested a perfect itinerary and then adjusted it to meet all our personal needs and wishes. During our travel all worked perfect!!

We went to their office on Wednesday February 14th and talked to Maria one 4 agents who worked there. She welcomed the 4 of us and asked us where we wanted to go. We said that we wanted to do the Devil’s Nose Train Ride a four hour drive just to get to Alausi and from there take the train. She called to see if we could get on the train on such a short notice and sure enough, we got it for Friday February 16th. A van would pick us up at 7:00am. We would have a guide all day with us, a box lunch, the train ride and a guides tour of the Ingapirca ruins on our way back to Cuenca. Everything went as she had said and we had a perfect tour thanks to Maria del Cisne Lazo.

We took a 3 day trip from Achupallas to Ingapirca along some ancient Inca trails, camping overnight.

Our guide Milton and Muleteer Francisco were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Francisco went on ahead with our main bags, tents and food on his mules, but he always managed to appear (sometimes eerily out of the mountain must!) just when we needed some help such as using his horses to cross a deep stream.

Milton's knowledge of the mountain flora & fauna, together with the history and culture of Ecuador was encyclopaedic and he shared it with us with an enthusiasm that was infectious.

The Paramo was rather wetter and greener that we had expected (a bit like Scotland but with more abundant plant and wildlife), but Milton & Francisco's excellent culinary skills kept us warm and full.

We are so glad that we took this trip as we felt we had really experienced this wonderful, diverse country.

Thank you Milton and Francisco - and for Happy Gringo for making it happen.

Maria Valez was our travel coordinator. She speaks English very well, and did a most admirable job of planning our tour through northern Ecuador (Quito, Banos-Abato, Chimborazo, Alausi, and Ingapirca). I shared with Maria what price range we were seeking in terms of accommodations at various locales, and we were not disappointed. When I made some changes to our itinerary, Maria facilitated the changes with ease.

Normally, when I hire a guide through an agency like Expediciones Apullacta, I give specific instructions as to the type of guide I am seeking. However, for some reason, I just told Maria I sought a guide who spoke English well, and was dependable with a car that could handle mountain driving. Our guide picked my son and I up in Quito after we spent two days in the historic center. We could not have chosen a better guide, if I had shared with Maria my usual detailed criteria for a guide.

Milton Chiqui is a young man in his early 30's from Cuenca. He speaks very good English, is well-educated, highly knowledgeable about Ecuador's history, geography, and various cultures. He has a great personality, and brings a real passion for his love of Ecuador and all it has to offer, and is more than willing to share his passion with us. He was always on-time, a very safe driver, and frequently wanted to know if all was well with us. Milton, as he got to know us better, frequently made suggestions of things we may want to do that we had not considered. Milton is a real professional, and he always did his homework in anticipation of taking us to places he was not as familiar. It was such a fun and learning experience with Milton. Both my son and I thought our trip was so awesome because of the exceptionally fine weather; amazingly beautiful scenery; the ease at which Maria's planning of our trip and accommodations went so smoothly; and Milton, who took what could have been an enjoyable trip, and made it into one of the most memorable times of travel for us. The whole week in northern Ecuador was among the best travel times of our lives, and both my son and I have done a great deal of world traveling.

Expediciones Apullacta is located on the northwest corner on the second floor in one of Cuenca's beautiful historic buildings at Grand Columbia (11-02) and General Torres. I would more than highly recommend this agency for travel plans, and will not hesitate to use them again in the future.

Reliable, knowledgeable and on time! Both tour guides, Javier for Ingapirca and Juan for Cajas National Park, were knowledgeable about their topics and, unlike other tour guides, provided as much information in English as in Spanish. Ingapirca, while not of the same characteristics of Machu Pichu, is a window to the Cañaris' and Incas' history and way of life.  Cajas National Park is of stunning beauty. Do not miss the paper tree forest! It is an absolutely wonder taken out of a fairy tale storybook. I wished I could have stayed longer in Cuenca to participate in other tours.

We are so happy that we chose Expediciones Apullacta for our trip to Cuenca, Gualaceo, Chordeleg, and the Ingapirca Ruins in Ecuador.

The booking process was extremely easy. Maria del Cisne was very patient and answered all the questions we had via email. We booked this trip from the United States and maintained contact with Maria del Cisne daily. When she was absent from her office, she refered us to one of her co-workers, who maintained the same level of professionalism and answered all our questions. When Maria del Cisne came back, she continued the booking process. The transition was seemless.

Our guide was Adrian Mora, who was very professional, detail-oriented, and extremely knowledgeable. Adrian picked us up in Guayaquil, took us to Cuenca, and after the tour, he drove us back to Guayaquil, as we had requested. His vehicle was clean, well-maintained, and very comfortable.

During our trip, we stayed at the Inca Real Hotel in the heart of Cuenca. This hotel is comfortable, cozy, and the service at the front desk was fantastic. I was impressed with their customer service. Breakfast at the hotel was delicious, and the service was great as well.

Lunches with Adrian were great too. He took us to great places where we got to taste Ecuadorian cuisine, as we had requested. Everywhere we went, we had great food and service. My husband and I really enjoyed the delicious food. The tour itinerary was well planned. We saw lots of places and learned so much in the process, but we did not feel rushed at all. Adrian was extremely patient, especially during our walks. We were thoroughly impressed with Adrian's knowledge of history, culture, flora, and fauna of the places we visited. Adrian's English is really good and we had no problems understanding his pronuciation.

We would definitely recommend Expediciones Apullacta, especially Maria del Cisne and Adrian Mora for their professionalism, customer service, availability, and attention to detail.

Thank you Apullacta for making our trip an unforgettable one!

Full disclosure, I have enjoyed every guided walking tour I have ever taken, and will take tours wherever they fit into my budget. I am probably more easily impressed than most people.

That said, Apullacta exceeded my expectations and put together two very good tours of the relatively modest-sized Inca site Ingapirca (the largest in Ecuador) and the misty and beautiful Cajas National Park (June 2012). Both times I joined a group tour, and both tours were led by the young and enthusiastic Patty. The tours were roughly day trips that included 2-3 hours of driving and 2-3 hours of walking, as well as EXCELLENT lunches in well decorated restaurants (the restaurant outside of Cajas was basically a well-furnished greenhouse built into a mountain).

While it is near impossible to not enjoy Ingapirca or Cajas National Park, even without a guide, Patty brought a personal touch to both sites that would be absent if you did either on your own. My group was relatively small on both tours, and Patty effortlessly moved from person to person answering individual questions about Incan history, bird species, and plant life. Apparently part of a tour guide’s training is learning bird calls, because Patty had a crazy ability to name and point out birds before they even appeared. I think the thing that impressed me the most though was that Patty and the drivers provided by Apullacta really made you feel at home. There was never that tour guide/tourist divide that I frequently find. It was very fun and casual, and you could tell that Patty was very passionate about Ingapirca, Cajas, Ecuador, and meeting people from abroad. Everyone in the group were friends by the end.

Two other things that I should mention. First, I am told that tour length and maybe quality can vary depending on the age, fitness, and interests of those in your group, especially in Cajas, so plan accordingly. My Cajas tour was shorter than usual because it was a little rainy and a couple of the other people on the tour were out of shape. It is a good thing that Patty paced the tour based on how far the least fit could enjoyably walk, but I would have enjoyed spending a little more time at the park.

Second, the price is a little steep if you are traveling on a budget, although both tours are well-worth it in my opinion. You can visit Ingapirca easily and cheaply on your own if you are willing to skip the interesting site by site commentary (blasphemy!), but Cajas is another matter. There are heavy restrictions on where you can walk there without a tour guide, and while there are multiple paths, they are split up and it is a hassle to travel by car from one to another (or so I was told by a traveler at my hotel). Plus, don’t you want to know what you’re seeing? I really enjoyed these tours.
