Just a post to warn everyone not to book anything in this area through JetBlue Vacations!!! They promise a free airport shuttle, but in order to get your voucher you need to sit through a meeting at your resort. They try to sell you on excursions and time shares. They scheduled my meeting at 9am on the first day of my 4 day trip. I never signed up for this and JetBlue never told me I had to do this! When I messaged the sales person that I wasn’t going to make the meeting I was told that it was mandatory in order to secure my shuttle back to the airport. They hold you hostage! When I eventually made it to the desk I stood in line for 30 minutes as the sales person talked about the Spanish language, where she lives, and how to find single men in this area. What a waste of my time! I left the area and my wife eventually returned and booked our shuttle. It leaves 5 hours before our flight! We’re only 30 minutes away. They suggest getting to the airport 3 hours before your flight so that’s 1.5 hours wasted (again) by JetBlue Vacations! I ended up just getting a $50 taxi through my resort. Oh, and when I called JetBlue Vacations it was over an hour wait! I suggest everyone avoids JetBlue Vacations!!

I traveled to this area 10 years ago. The beaches were A+. This time April 2-9 the beaches were muddled with seaweed to the point that you couldn't swim in them including the gorgeous Tolum ruins. The beach afterwards was the best part. It's currently closed. Such a disappointment including the block of sales people you have to walk through to get to the ruins which is so commercialized now:( Again sad, before you would drive right up and get to the beauty! No people hassling you to buy, buy, buy. The resort TRES RIOS was amazing! Kid friendly, had awesome pools and cenotes on property. Luckily, our ocean was decent because the rivers pushed the seaweed down a bit so we could get in and swim. It was no Hawaii this time around and I hope it get's better! Safety wasn't an issue so that was nice and car insurance was a ton, although the rental was only $300 but totaled $1000 to cover your car and the other persons.

Horrible service everywhere with the exception of the fanciest restaurants. Housekeeping does a very bad job, took our sheets and didn’t give us any multiple days in a row. All food, again with the exception of the fanciest restaurants, is edible at best. Towel stands close before the pools do for some reason. Gave us the wrong room and did not change it, in fact they advertised a room that they themselves did not exist (room with two queen beds). They did nothing to correct this error. The vast majority of the service people are incredibly rude. Save your money!

We had a blast at this resort. It’s immaculately well kept. The food is great and the campus is large enough to keep you feeling like you. Aren’t trapped.
We had a 150 person wedding so it was important that the the hotel took care of our patrons and didn’t push the responsibility on us.
As far as the downsides go. We tried to do a couple of thier events and it not only wasn’t worth it they would double triple charge us . The Super Bowl party was $100 and they gave our seats away. Then they charged us for a full table.
They”accidentally” charged us for someone else’s massage and admitted to the error but then said that the other party had already left so it was on us..
All in all it’s an awesome property but stick to the restaurants and bars don’t veer off into other services.

The only good thing about this resort was the pools and the views. I enjoyed the food at salum and my favorite restaurant was Gong our server Angela was very good. All the staff elsewhere, in the main lobby, shuttle drivers, etc. were so rude. Marco in the front lobby was very aggressive and hostile. we had many issues in our room. It smelled like must, and dirt, our beds felt damp when we arrived and it was all around upsetting considering how much we spent on this trip. Other staff in the front lobby were also rude to my family and I aswell. They were very unhelpful and seemed angry to even have to help when it is their jobs. When we went to Jungala the water park there was fecal matter in the pools. I am very disappointed. I was hoping for more from this resort and to actually feel like I was on a vacation but we were stressed the whole time. I suggest spending your money and booking a trip at a different resort. I will not come back here. Drinks and food are overpriced and not the best quality aswell. 1/10

Sun worshipers probably love it but actually the beach is not that good. It gets very busy, sections are set aside for hotels, and the waves can get strong. Also not good for swimming or snorkeling as there is not a lot to see. During our visit, it was clear that this was not a problem because almost every one spent the whole day in the sun on sun loungers.

Drug dealers everywhere. Whats worse is I see hotel staff and security allowing it. The seaweed is also horrible. The seaweed is a higher life form than those locals targeting young tourist on the beach for weed, blow, and doobies. Do not take your kids here and for sure do not allow your young adults to get down there in that mess.

This place is amazing solo or with someone who is also pationate about history. Every step that I put on I felt like the visitation of place were welcoming me. I had time to meditate in the corner of mountain. Wisdom of ancestors lays here.

Be prepared to spend alot of money to eat out at not upscale places. $15 cheese burger & $10 for fries. Just a hole in the wall off fifth.
Beach's were very narrow and lots of grass. very smelly where we were but other areas did clean up the grass.
Be ready to be harassed from restaurants and charter vendors and shopping vendors, it's bad.
If you go and stay at a resort I'm sure you'll be happy.

Riviera Maya is the Yucatan Coast from Puerto Morales (South of Cancun) to Akumal. Playa del Carmen is about in the middle. Over the years we have stayed at about 10 different resorts on Riviera Maya. Some of the resorts have very nice beaches. Others are coral rubble and some have eroded away. The best beaches are at the resorts in Playacar, just south of Playa. However, again this year they are inundated with Sargassum seaweed and no matter how hard they, try they keep the beaches clean and it is unpleasant swimming in the seaweed. Unfortunately this is not only in Riviera Maya but also throughout the Caribbean.

When I went at the beginning of May there was quite a lot in Playa del Carmen, BUT there were huge (read: superhuman) efforts to remove it and/or block more from coming. In most cases you could step over the sargasso on the beach and swim in nice, clear water. People were doing that without issue. By this point it really may all be gone anyway, though. In either case, don’t cancel your plans or get too worried over it. It’s really not a big deal for travellers except that you might have to crop your photos creatively. You’re not going to end up swimming in a soup of it or anything like that.
